The University of Michigan, along with Los Alamos National Laboratory (creators of the atomic bomb)
are partnering to build the "world's fastest supercomputers" in Ypsi Township.
One 100-megawatt facility is intended for Los Alamos Lab's "classified national security A.I. related challenges",
while the second 10-megawatt facility is planned for UMich A.I. research.

The good thing is... the data center isn't built yet!
Construction is set to start in 2026, but the project has yet to acquire permits. Other cities have successfully blocked the development of data centers at this stage, including a recent $1.5B project in Missiouri. To date, $64B worth of data center projects have been delayed since 2023.
U-M and Ypsi are keeping details under wraps while launching this project, but we're not letting them go unnoticed.
